My second stop in Amish Country in Central Ohio was Chestnut Ridge Sewing in Millersburg, where owner Dawn Krier sells fabric, machines, and custom sewing machine cabinets. There is also a kitchen garden in front of the store.
Chestnut Ridge is the local Bernina Dealer and Service Center. If you’re ever wondered what the inside of your machine looks like, stop in and look at the one in the store with a clear cover. It’s pretty neat to watch, but it does not photograph well – the things behind it are visible right through it! Besides, it is something that deserves to be seen in person.
How about some embroidery thread – and a nice little sixteen thread machine to go with it? Chestnut Ridge Sewing carries Anita Goodesign and Kimber Bell Embroidery patterns, in addition to a large selection of quilt patterns.
Would you like a new custom cabinet for your machine? They are available in several woods and finishes, and these are wood, not press- board!
Head to the back of the shop, down the small ramp, and enjoy the fabric! Fossil Ferns, Kaffe Fassett, Grunge in stars, dots, and “solids,” and much more. Stroll through and see what you can find – and what wants to follow you home! There are Jelly Rolls, Layer Cakes, and Charm Packs available as well.
Finally, after two rooms and a hall of fabric, there is the classroom. It’s worth going in just to wander looking at all of the samples on the walls – as long as there is not a class in session using all of the space! These are mostly class samples or kit samples, and there are dozens. There was an Embroidery Club/Class in progress while I was there. They were working on wall hangings – but don’t miss the machine lace train on the counter!
