Bits ‘n Pieces Wayne, Michigan

Southwest of Detroit and just four and one half miles from I275 is a 10 sided brick building that houses Bits ‘n Pieces. Owned by Julie Hale, this shop will have been in business for 40 years Thanksgiving of this year.

More than the building is unique in this shop. They have their own pattern line that is sold both in house and to other shops.

There is also a wide selection of seat belt webbing available, and patterns to make bags and purses from it. The many corners in the building create multiple opportunities to display samples – and all of them are utilized. Take time to enjoy these while you are here.

Bits ‘n Pieces is a major Bernina dealer, and carries thread of just about every style and color. If you are looking for something, stop in or give them a call. Then you can use the thread to make freestanding buildings from Machine Lace, like to ones below. I can see adding red and green accents for a Christmas theme…

Check out the display of antique Bernina machines on the top of the fabric shelves. It’s a good look at how far these machines have come over the years. Then wander over and check out the new machines on display, and see what strikes your fancy.

Don’t forget to browse the fabric! If you enjoy working from kits, this shop cuts their own kits for their own patterns. You can also just buy the pattern and go search out your own fabric – there are over 1500 bolts to choose from, if my quick estimate is correct! Each section has the relevant fat quarters shelved near the bolts for your convenience. There are also Jelly Rolls, Charm Packs, and Layer Cakes available.

If you enjoy working with Grunge, there is a good selection of that as well. As someone who has done the Bonnie Hunter Mystery a couple of times, I was thrilled to see the selection of neutrals available.

Plan at least an hour at this shop, and enjoy yourself!
