Mill House Quilts Waunakee, Wisconsin

Mill House Quilts resides along the railroad tracks in Waunakee, Wisconsin, just six and one half miles from I39.

The store is housed in an old post and beam grain mill, built in 1875.  In 1994, owners Kim and Kerry Zajicek did an extensive remodel, removing walls to pull out ancient grain and rebuilding to create a warm and welcoming quilt shop, which opened in 1995.

Fabric is sorted by type and color. I love large scale prints because I do a lot of Stack-n-Whack®, and they were all together on one shelf set to drool over…    And yes, I bought some!!

Matching a semi-solid to trim the chosen print was easy with the color sorted shelves.  There is also a nice selection of flannels.  Class and kit samples are displayed in every room of the shop, and there are plenty of patterns and rulers to make your selection.   Embroidery patterns are also available, as well as AccuQuilt Go® dies and systems. The shop is also a Bernina dealer. Long Arm machines are both sold at the shop, and available to rent time to quilt your next masterpiece.

Every season there is a Class Preview Day, where you can get an explanation of each class by the instructor.

There are also lectures on techniques.  August’s Fall Class Preview featured “All About Half Square Triangles.” Check back to see what’s featured for the Winter Class Preview!

If you sign up for the class on Preview Day there is a discount.  You do need to register for the preview, although there is no charge.

These charming fabric rolls are known as Hay Bales. They are bundles of from 4 to 30 fat quarters, rolled together and named for their similarities to the rolled hay bales common to the farms in the area.  I found them delightful, and just had to get a picture of the ones that were being made while I was there.
